An employer has a legal duty to prevent employees from being exposed to asbestos unnecessarily.
Once asbestos has been identified in a premises, the action taken can depend upon several factors, including the condition of the material, current and future use of the item or area and, of course, budget.
AsbesteX are licensed asbestos removal contractors offering a complete service, meeting today’s strict standards and regulations.
Where the asbestos containing material (ACM) is in good condition and located in an area where it is unlikely to be disturbed or damaged, it may only be necessary to encapsulate it to reduce the risk to an acceptable minimum and attach a
label. In addition, environmental cleaning of the area may or may not be
required. It is important to remember that any ACM managed in this way
must be monitored for signs of deterioration.
Surveys
Within the new legislation brought out by the HSE as The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (2002), Regulation 4 ‘The Management of Asbestos in Non-domestic Premises’ came into effect on 21 May 2004.
This regulation applies to those who own, occupy, manage or have responsibility for premises that may contain asbestos and places either a legal duty on them to manage the risk or a duty to co-operate with whoever manages that risk.
DID YOU KNOW? Asbestos containing materials may be present if the building was constructed or refurbished before 1985 when blue and brown asbestos were banned. Asbestos cement products were used until as recently as 1999.
