Our client a large Construction and Building Contractors in Canada, working on hospitals, schools and major roads, are now seeking a British Contracts & Commercial Manager to work on their offices in Vancouver with travel across Canada. You will hold a minimum of 15 years experience with a Major British contractor in roles dealing with Project management of change procedures, cost management, claims and variations, negotiation and settlement of disputes with owners and subcontractors. A Senior Contracts & Commercial Manager is sought to be responsible for the commercial management of a variety of projects during the tender and project execution phase. Projects are typically in excess of $200m, and cover both the building and Civil Engineering sectors. The individual must have the ability to operate and manage at the executive level of the Project structure typically in a Joint Venture environment. Commercial management and overview for a number of major projects (typically with contract values in excess of $200m) in Canada. Commercial responsibility for cost control, procurement, commercial reporting, variation/claims management, and analysis of financial position for a number of projects. Commercial and contractual advice to Operations Directors, Project Directors and project teams. Assistance in the development and implementation of commercial management procedures across the business. Thorough knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of construction contracts across a variety of contract types including Design and Build and Build only. Excellent Subcontract procurement skills including experience in managing complex design subcontracts. Ability to review major complex bespoke contracts in the building and civil engineering sectors to identify and communicate risks and mitigation strategies to the bid teams. Ability to manage commercial teams to optimize commercial returns on major fixed price, design and build projects. The role requires excellent organization and people skills. Will be required to operate successfully in a PPP/PFI environment. Degree in Quantity Surveying, or an equivalent construction qualification MRICS/ MCIOB/ MCIArb professional qualifications are desirable. Previous international experience with major contractors and joint ventures preferred.
