City planners approve £250m Blackfriars hotel
A £250m hotel on the banks of the Thames at Blackfriars has been given planning approval by the City of London Corporation.
As part of the redevelopment, the existing Mermaid House at No.2 Puddle Dock will be demolished and replaced by the seven-storey hotel.
It will include 251 bedrooms, plus gym, spa, conference, banqueting and events facilities, plus infinity swimming pool on one of the upper floors.
The Will Alsop-designed hotel will feature translucent concrete and glass cladding, and a glass-only façade on the river side.
