AFI acquires Wilson Access Hire

13 Feb 13 Powered access equipment hire company AFI has acquired Leeds-based Wilson Access Hire.

Former owner Tom Wilson decided to sell the company so that he could devote more time to his other business interests, the companies said in a statement.

Wilson Access will keep its trading name as part of the AFI group of companies but now comes under the control of AFI director Richard Saunders.

The deal follows AFI’s acquisitions last year of training companies UTN Training in Wakefield and Shropshire-based Instant Training.

Wilson Access Hire has been in operation for 10 years. It has 12 employees and a fleet of 14 truck-mounts plus three track-mounted boomlifts. As well as its main base at Elland, Wilson Access also has a small Southern operation based at Leighton Buzzard.

Richard Saunders said: “This latest acquisition is a further example of how AFI’s strong financial position is allowing us to capitalise on opportunities in the market. Wilson Access Hire is a well-run, quality business with a well maintained and modern powered access fleet and a strong presence in the north.

“Wilson Access is highly regarded and in recognition of this, we are retaining the Wilson name. Wilson’s customers will have the added advantage of having access to AFI’s UK network of 20 depot and training centres and our modern and versatile powered access hire fleets of over 4,000 machines.”
