Arup and Atkins support BMB super sewer contract

12 Jan 16 The BMB joint venture that is contracted to build the £416m western section of London’s Thames Tideway Tunnel has appointed Ove Arup and Atkins as its consulting engineers.

The Arup Atkins joint venture will provide the BAM Nuttall/Morgan Sindall/Balfour Beatty contracting team with a range of design and engineering services.

The 6km west section of the 25km super sewer will run from Acton to Wandsworth, incorporating seven separate work sites along the route. Works will include design, construction, commissioning and maintenance following construction completion. Mobilisation began in September 2015 and completion is scheduled for 2022.

The new tunnel will be the biggest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the UK water industry.

Atkins UK chief executive Nick Roberts said: “The Thames Tideway Tunnel will help transform the river and we are very pleased that BMB chose the valuable experience, expertise and approach we’ve developed with Arup from projects such as Crossrail.”
