Balfour Beatty earns extension on West Sussex highways

27 Jan 16 Balfour Beatty Living Places has been awarded a two-year extension by West Sussex County Council to continue its highways contract.

The contract, worth another £55m, includes highways improvements, such as resurfacing, safety fencing, footway, cycleway and carriageway reconstruction, as well as routine highway maintenance including defect repair, grass cutting and reactive emergency response.

Balfour Beatty Living Places has been West Sussex County Council’s highways alliance partner since July 2011.

The renewal of this contract provides a welcome boost for the contractor which recently had a similar contract with Wiltshire County Council terminated two years early for under performance. However, in West Sussex it has consistently met its targets.

In the 2014/15 financial year it delivered more than 40 miles of carriageway resurfacing, 38 improvement projects such as improvements to footways, drainage, signing and road markings, and dealt with 33,364 reactive maintenance defects within target repair times.

Balfour Beatty Living Places managing director Amanda Fisher said: “I am thrilled with the two-year contract extension for West Sussex, which is testament to the excellent service delivery provided by the industry-leading highways alliance.”
