Balfour Beatty picked for Maryland mixed-use project

23 Sep 15 Balfour Beatty Construction has won a contract to build a mixed-use development in Silver Spring in the US state of Maryland.

The Central project for Grosvenor Americas is for a five-storey building of 243 residential units above 16,000 square feet of retail space and two levels of underground parking.

Grosvenor’s Central development is part of a revitalisation of downtown Silver Spring that has been taking place in recent years.

“Grosvenor is committed to unlocking the potential of communities through its ‘Living Cities’ philosophy and we are honoured to have been selected as their construction partner,” said David Laib, senior vice president, Balfour Beatty Construction. “We share Grosvenor’s passion for constructing inventive and imaginative projects that spark community spirit and energise neighbourhoods.”

The development will also include 31 below-market-rate units and a facilities including a pool, bike workshop and Wi-Fi café/lounge.
