“I was keen to continue my career in a role that involves the wider construction industry,” Mr Wren said. “In addition, I am very supportive of an industry that recognises the importance of training and qualifications to improve performance and to attract new recruits. On this basis the chief executive role in CSCS is ideal and I very much look forward to the challenges and eventual rewards.”

His appointment was welcomed by the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), whose managing director Mark Roper said: "This is very welcome news for CSCS and the wider construction industry. Graham’s appointment shows that CSCS continues to go from strength to strength, and his hands-on experience of the industry will prove invaluable in his new role. CECA looks forward to continuing our work with CSCS to ensure that the UK’s construction sector will ensure that everyone working in the industry has the right skills to do the job, raising standards and improving performance across the board. It is this sort of cross-industry collaboration that will enable CECA members to play their part in delivering the required upgrades to our nation’s infrastructure, thereby returning the economy to growth."
