Balfour Beatty team wins £364m HK tower project

15 Jun 16 Balfour Beatty’s joint venture with Jardine Matheson has won a HK$4bn (£364m) redevelopment contract in Hong Kong.

The joint venture, Gammon Construction, will redevelop Somerset House into a 48-storey office building on top of a two-storey basement. Client for the work is Taikoo Place Holdings, a subsidiary of Swire Properties.

Gammon chief executive Thomas Ho said: “We are delighted to have been selected by Swire Properties and to be involved with this landmark project.  Gammon’s advanced technological standards and expertise in building construction was critical for the award of this project.”

Construction is soon to commence with completion scheduled for 2018. At construction peak the project will employ a workforce of 1,400.
