Bam endorses scissor lift attachment

29 Oct 12 Southern Cranes & Access has ordered 20 Genie GS1932 scissor lifts with the new deckRailXtra materials handling attachment system to meet the needs of customer BAM Nuttall.

The platforms are being supplied by Derby-based Workplatform with the special attachment fitted by Aerial & Handling Services (AHS).

The 20 platforms will be shipped direct to AHS to have the deckRailXtra system installed before they are delivered to the Mensa project at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) in Reading where main contractor BAM Nuttall has already been using the deckRailXtra system.

“We found that the deckRailXtra system supplied by Aerial Handling through Southern Cranes & Access to be a very safe and efficient way of lifting steel rebar during the high level construction process on our project, and with only 14kg of weight being added to the Scissor lift there is little if any noticeable difference to the lifting capacity unlike some other systems we have used,” said Rhys Tillman of BAM Nuttall.

David Dennis of Southern Cranes & Access added: “Having previously had many scissor lifts on the Mensa project only to see them returned because the contractor insisted on a materials handling attachment which we were unable to offer was frustrating but now with this new investment we have been able to win back the contractor, which is very satisfying.”
