BAM picked for Stuttgart hospital upgrade

10 Sep 15 BAM Deutschland has won a €88m (£64m) contract to renew a major part of Stuttgart’s municipal hospital.

The project involves the construction of a new main building and a connecting hall with a total gross floor area of 41,000m².

The design by Arcass Planungsgesellschaft provides for a substructure comprising four floors, to house departments including radiology, oncology, haematology, cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine. Constructed transversally above this there are two sections of three floors each that will house the wards. The radiotherapy department’s radiation bunkers are located on one of the three basement floors.

Work will begin in January 2016 with the demolition of two buildings to make room for the new structure. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018.
