Original development proposals were refused by St Albans City & District Council, but BRE appealed the decision.
Secretary of state for communities & local government Eric Pickles agreed with the planning inspector’s recommendation to approve the scheme.
The proposed scheme will see 100 houses constructed on the northern part of BRE’s site, on a three hectare plot that is currently occupied by several commercial buildings.
BRE plans to use the funds generated from the development to improve its facilities and to contribute to pension funding.
