Brookfield Multiplex starts on $100m Sydney retirement village

24 Oct 14 Brookfield Multiplex has begun construction of a AU$100m (£54.6m) retirement village in Sydney’s upmarket Vaucluse suburb.

The contractor is partnering with the Mark Moran Group to build the Mark Moran Vaucluse aged care and seniors living development on a former high school site.

The 12,000m2 community will include over 200 different types of live-in facilities, almost half of which will be ‘super suites’, as well as a number of independent living units and residential aged care rooms. The building will also include on-site facilities including dining venues, 25m swimming pool, gymnasium, cinema, card club, beauty centre, art rooms and wellness centre. There will also be 24-hour care, concierge and security services.

“Seniors living is a pressing issue in Australia with the increase in our ageing population and the need to provide high quality, desirable housing options for seniors,” said David Ghannoum, regional managing director of New South Wales at Brookfield Multiplex. “We are excited to be bringing the best in retirement living community to Sydney's Eastern Suburbs.”

Designed by Marchese Partners, a signature design element is a large four-storey atrium providing abundant natural light to the building and connecting all floors, both visually and operationally anchoring each of the building wings. The building surrounds also feature significant landscaping. “Striking architecture and a diverse range of lifestyle facilities are major points-of-difference that will define Mark Moran Vaucluse as a world-class lifestyle community,” added Ghannoum. “We will draw on our expertise in the residential and healthcare sectors in delivering the village.”

Mark Moran, executive chairman of the Mark Moran Group said: “To match the architecture and the build quality we are bringing lifestyle components that will have the village run more like a cruise ship then a retirement village. Our members will have peace of mind that as they go about their active lives, they need not worry about lifestyle management or any future care requirements if or when required.”

Construction on the project is scheduled for completion by April, 2016.
