Brookfield Multiplex wins $125m Victoria community centre

26 Nov 15 The city of Casey in the Australian state of Victoria has awarded Brookfield Multiplex the contract for the AU$125m (£58m) Bunjil Place cultural centre.

Bunjil Place is one of the largest projects to be undertaken by local government in Australia. It will serving a regional community that currently lacks access to arts and cultural facilities. Features include; 800 seat regional theatre, studio, regional art gallery, community library and meeting rooms, civic centre and council offices and a community plaza.

It will have an area of 24,500m2 and will be located at Narre Warren in Melbourne’s south east, 40kms from the central business district. It has been designed by architect: Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp.

“Brookfield Multiplex was the standout team in Council’s comprehensive three-stage tender process which was a first for the City of Casey and is fitting for the size and scale of this project,” said city of Casey mayor Sam Aziz. He cited other nearby projects completed by the company, including  Melbourne’s Federation Square, Royal Melbourne Showgrounds and the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. “This gives Council confidence that Brookfield Multiplex understands the Bunjil Place project and can produce the unique design and meet the special requirements of all the internal facilities such as the theatre and community library,” he added.
