Brookfield Multiplex wins landmark Melbourne tower

10 Feb 15 ICD Property has awarded Brookfield Multiplex the AU$169m (£86m) construction contract for a landmark apartment block in Melbourne’s central business district.

Most of the apartments in the 63-level Eq Tower were sold in under 12 weeks, with the final ones sold in November 2014.

The AU$335m building will have 633 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as amenities including a 25m outdoor swimming pool and BBQ area, indoor gym, cinema, games room and lounges.

“Eq Tower is a complex project in terms of its scope of amenity, its intricate curved façade and the innovative techniques used to design the building,” said ICD Property director of finance and development manager Matthew Khoo. “With this in mind we knew we wanted to partner with Brookfield Multiplex due to their long-standing reputation for delivering world-class, complex projects.

“With the project fully sold out after less than eight months on the market, buyers have been quick to realise the lifestyle potential at Eq Tower.”

Architect Elenberg Fraser has designed the Eq Tower, which has a curtain wall glass facade designed using equations that analysed weather patterns, sunlight, views and apartment usage to ensure no space was underused and that natural light could be delivered to all living and bedroom spaces.

Sustainable elements have also been considered throughout the development including a green wall façade on the podium, rainwater harvesting and reuse, photovoltaic solar panels, water efficient fixtures and appliances and high-performance double glazing used throughout.
