Cardno-Amec Foster Wheeler to assess US Marine Corps facilities worldwide

3 Aug 16 A joint venture of Cardno-Amec Foster Wheeler has won a US$30m (£22.6m), five-year contract to assess US Marine Corps facilities worldwide.

The contract for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest includes building condition assessments carried out using the Builder Sustainment Management System (SMS) of the  Department of Defense (DoD).

Builder SMS is a web-based application developed at the US Army Corps of Engineers Construction Engineering Research Laboratory.  It uses information about the condition, functionality, and service life of all facility components – such as lights, floors, roofing and electrical systems - to create models for capital and maintenance cost projections. The projections will be used by the DoD to develop short- and long-term plans.

Cardno is licensed to distribute Builder SMS for use in the private sector.  To date, Cardno has completed more than 250 million square feet of building assessments using the software.
