Carillion wins £200m hospitals FM contract

31 Mar 14 Carillion has been selected as preferred bidder for a £200m support services contract to be awarded by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The contract covers Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital.

The contract is expected to be worth approximately £200m to Carillion over the initial five-year contract period and there is an option to extend the contract period by a further three years, subject to satisfactory performance.

Under the contract, Carillion will provide a wide range of services, including maintenance of the fabric of the hospitals, mechanical and electrical engineering, catering, cleaning, security, logistics, patient movements, waste management and the operation of the switchboard and helpdesk functions.

Contract signature is scheduled to follow a statutory 10-day ‘standstill’ period, which ends at midnight on 7 April 2014, after which Carillion is expected to start service delivery at NUH in June 2014.

Commenting, Peter Homa, chief executive of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "Carillion has extensive experience of running estates and facilities services at other similar-size hospitals. We are confident that by working in partnership with Carillion and utilising their expertise and innovative ideas for running these services, we can build on our strengths and further improve service standards for the benefit of our patients."
