The 37-tonne machine has been put to work preparing the site of a 950-home development on the outskirts of Manchester.

Chandos won the contract to provide drainage and over three miles of road construction on the new Redrow housing development on the old Woodford Aerodrome site.

The new JS370LC, purchased from dealer Gunn JCB, joins nearly 20 other JCB machines in the Chandos fleet, including JS130 and JS220 excavators and the newly introduced Terex-made and JCB-badged site dumpers.

Chandos Civil Engineering director Danny Molloy said: “We realised we needed a larger excavator than our traditional 22-tonne models as the volume of drainage work has increased significantly as the company has grown. We looked at several options but the JCB came out on top. Not only was the service excellent throughout the process but the machine stood out too. On one application we needed to dig through rock to install drainage pipes and no other excavator could touch it. But the JCB excavator managed no problem.”

The 37-tonne JCB JS370 is powered by a Euro Stage IIIB compliant Isuzu 210 kW engine that delivers 25% more power than its predecessor and 27% more torque, JCB says. And the 155kN bucket tearout makes the standard boom version of the JS370 model up to 12% more productive than the closest competitors, the manufacturer claims.
