Chartway JV to start £30m Ashford scheme

21 Dec 16 Contracts have been signed to build housing on the site of a college campus in Ashford, Kent.

Housing association Orbit and Kent builder Chartway Group have exchanged the contracts with West Kent & Ashford College to build 158 mixed-tenure homes on the former K College campus on Jemmett Road.

The £30m development will offer 25 rented, 50 shared ownership (part-buy, part-rent), and 53 outright sale homes by Orbit, with a further 30 outright sale homes from Chartway Group’s residential brand, Westerhill Homes.

The K College will relocate to new premises by mid-2017, with construction expected to start on the site in the late summer.

Chartway Group projects director Tim McLoughlin said: “The joint venture with Orbit marks the continued growth and evolution of the Chartway Group and its residential brand, Westerhill Homes. Delivering quality homes with our signature design, whilst providing much needed housing for the local community, is core to everything we do.”

Orbit has built 5,000 homes since 2013 and expects to build a further 1,100 in Kent over the next four years.
