Chinese consortium joins LA-Las Vegas rail project

21 Sep 15 The developer of a planned high-speed railway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles is forming a joint venture with a Chinese company to accelerate the project.

China Railway International USA and XpressWest have agreed to form a joint venture to develop, finance, build and operate the Southwest Rail Network, which will have stations in Las Vegas, Nevada and Victorville, Palmdale and Los Angeles in California.

The 370km line is intended to drive new economic development and grow the tourism industry of the region. Construction could start as early as September 2016.

XpressWest is a private interstate high-speed passenger rail company led by the Marnell Companies. It has been working since since 2005 on the development of a high-speed passenger railway connecting Las Vegas to Los Angeles.

China Railway International is a newly-formed Nevada company owned by a consortium of companies including: China Railway International, China Railway Group Limited, CRRC Qingdao Sifang, China Construction America, CREEC USA and CRSC International.
