Cimic team named for Queensland light rail project

21 Mar 16 Cimic subsidiary CPB Contractors has been named as the preferred contractor for stage two of the Gold Coast light rail project in Queensland, Australia.

CPB Contractors – formerly Leighton Contractors - has been selected by GoldLinQ, the franchisee appointed by the Queensland government for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the light rail system.

The Queensland government has announced AU$420m (£220m) in funding for Stage 2, for design and construction, as well as operations and maintenance through to 2029.

As preferred delivery contractor, CPB Contractors is set to deliver the design and construction portion of Stage 2. Revenue to CPB Contractors will be confirmed at contract execution. Within the Stage 2 works, CPB Contractors will deliver a 7.3km northern extension of the Gold Coast light rail.As well as the 7.3km of dual track light rail, the project includes three additional stations and two park-and-ride facilities.

CPB Contractors will continue to work with GoldLinQ to refine the tender proposal with final documents expected to be signed in mid-April. Construction is scheduled to start in April for completion in late 2017.
