The old police station in Market Street is being converted to student accommodation. The 10-storey building will have 48 studios and 177 bedrooms to house a total of 225 students.

Watkin Jones, a specialist developer/builder of student housing, expects to complete the development in 2018.

Chief executive Mark Watkin Jones said:  “We are very pleased to have secured planning consent for this exciting development. Located in the city centre of Newcastle with easy access to university campuses, local facilities and public transport it is well positioned for student accommodation.  This latest scheme adds to our growing pipeline and further builds our visibility around the group's business model.”
