Perth & Kinross Council has awarded BAM Construction a contract to overhaul the museum building, while Ogilvie Construction has been tasked with building a new collection store on a separate site.

The museum refurbishment budget is £7m and £3m is being spent on the new storage facility. Some 450,000 items not on display are currently stored in the museum’s basement.

The project will be managed by Hub East Central Scotland in partnership with the council.  Architectural firm Hoskins is leading the overall design of the project.

Perth is bidding to become UK City of Culture 2021 and the museum renovation is intended to support its bid.
