Coussens is first with new Liebherr

The Liebherr LTM 1160-5.2 is an all-terrain mobile crane that is rated at 160-tonnes safe working load and is just 2.75 metres wide.

With its main boom fully extended to 62 metres it lifts up to 25% more than the predecessor Liebherr model and the vehicle body is a quarter of a metre narrower.

Coussens has also opted for a 19m folding fly jib for additional reach.

The vehicle’s reduction in width from 3m to 2.75m means it is easier to drive on public roads and facilitates use on sites where space is restricted, especially when teamed with Liebherr’s VarioBase variable outrigger facility, which Coussens has opted for with its machine.

A single six-cylinder (Stage IV compliant) Liebherr diesel engine, which develops 400 kW / 544 hp and torque of 2,516 Nm, provides the LTM 1160-5.2 with power for both travelling and lifting operations.

A mechanical shaft ensures sufficient power for crane work while running at low engine speeds. Fuel consumption and noise emissions are minimised by ECOmode with the crane driver setting the required working speed and the LICCON2 control system calculating the optimum engine speed.

Because the UK has more relaxed heavy vehicle regulations than most of the European Union, Coussens’ LTM 1160-5.2 has been specially fitted with a customised on-board counterweight configuration. Designed by Liebherr for UK customers, it enables the crane to carry 22.5 tonnes of its 54 tonne maximum counterweight in the UK with axle weights within the STGO regulations.
