Cranes collide on Balfour Beatty tower

10 Mar 14 The Health & Safety Executive is investigating the collapse of a tower crane jib on a Balfour Beatty site in London Docklands on Friday (7/3/14).

According to reliable reports, a flat-top saddle jib tower crane struck the raised jib of a neighbouring Jost hydraulic luffer on the Providence Tower project. The operator of the luffing jib crane suffered head injuries as the jib fell.

Investigations are focusing on why the cranes were set up in such an arrangement that they were able to collide, or whether an anti-collision system was in use but failed.

Providence Tower is set to be a 43-story residential tower at New Providence Wharf. The developer is Ballymore. Completion is scheduled for December 2015.
