The contract, with a value in the region of £75m, also covers the fit-out of the two portals at North Woolwich and Plumstead at either end of the Thames Tunnel where Crossrail trains will surface.

The four short-listed contractors that are invited to tender are:

  • Balfour Beatty
  • Laing O'Rourke Construction
  • Morgan Sindall
  • Vinci Construction UK.

A successful bidder will be confirmed in autumn 2014, with work on site beginning in spring 2015. The new Woolwich Crossrail station is scheduled to open in 2018.

Work on the station box was completed by Berkeley Homes in March 2013 when it was handed over to Crossrail Ltd. In July a deal was reached to fund the remaining works required to fit out the station with contributions provided by Berkeley Homes, the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Transport for London.
