December saw rise in construction output
Construction output rose in December 2016, according to latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Construction output in Great Britain rose by 1.8% in December 2016, compared with November 2016, largely due to an increase in new work. Year-on-year, compared with December 2015, construction output increased by a more modest 0.6%.
The year-on-year growth was mainly due to new house-building work, while the month-on-month rise was helped by a 5.2% expansion in private commercial work.
By contrast, infrastructure output declined in December for an 11th consecutive month.
A broader view shows construction output growing by 0.2% in the final quarter of the year, compared to the third quarter.
