Deck installation completed for Dutch motorway lift bridge

30 Sep 14 The second and final deck section has been installed for the new Botlek Bridge in the Netherlands.

The A-Lanes A15 consortium of contractors including Strukton is working for client Rijkswaterstaat on construction of the new lifting bridge, which is part of a widening project for the A15 motorway.

The first deck section was installed between towers in mid-September, with the second placed this week, followed by the successful raising of the new deck.

The new Botlek Bridge will become one of the largest vertical-lift bridges in Europe. It will be wider than its predecessor, so that shipping traffic can pass underneath from both sides simultaneously. In addition, the bridge will be taller, so that the decks will have to be raised less often, which will improve traffic circulation both on the water and the road.
