Denne starts £30m Chelmsford housing scheme

25 Feb 13 Tomorrow sees the official start of work by contractor Denne on a £30m housing project in Chelmsford, Essex.

Genesis Housing Association, one of the largest housing providers in the southeast, is developing the former Anglia Ruskin University site in the centre of the city.

A total of 507 homes will be built on the site by 2015 in three phases, providing a mix of affordable and private new homes, which will aim to satisfy local demand for property within commuter distance of London. Denne has been selected to build the first phase.

The transformation will also include a wider revamp of commercial space and redevelopment of three existing buildings: the Law building, Anne Knight and Frederick Chancellor, to bring them back into use as part of the project.

Genesis CEO Neil Hadden said: “This development demonstrates our on-going commitment to building affordable homes and creating places where people want to live.

Chelmsford councillors as well as representatives from Denne and the Homes & Communities Agency will join Genesis staff for a ground-breaking ceremony tomorrow (26 February).
