Doosan’s new 25-tonne crawler excavator

19 Jan 15 Doosan Construction Equipment claims that its new Series-5 25-tonne tracked digger ‘sets a new benchmark for excavator design worldwide’.

The new Doosan DX255LC-5 is a 25-tonne crawler excavator that meets the European Stage IV engine emission regulations, replacing the previous LC-3 Stage IIIB model.

Whilst overall dimensions are very similar to the previous DX255LC-3 model, the DX255LC-5 Stage IV excavator has the new styling seen on other LC-5 models and has been given an extra 500kg of weight for added strength. Lifting capacities are up to 17% more than in the predecessor model, both over the front and the side, the Korean manufacturer says. Noise levels are reduced by 1 dBA.

The DX255LC-5 excavator is factory-installed as standard with the CoreTMS wireless fleet monitoring system. This was previously an optional extra. It is now incorporated in all LC-5 generation machines above 14 tonne.

The six-cylinder turbocharged Doosan DL06P water-cooled diesel engine meets Stage IV regulations without the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.  The DL06P engine provides an output of 141 kW (189 HP) at 1900 rpm, an increase of 5% in engine power.

Also standard now on all LC-5 models is Doosan’s SPC (smart power control) feature, which monitors both engine and pump power and limits unnecessary outputs depending on whether the work is light or heavy.  Tests against previous generation machines have demonstrated additional fuel savings up to 5%, on top of the 4% reduction already achieved by the new engine, Doosan claims.
