Ethiopia gets €540m from EU for rural roads

It has already been financing rural road development in Ethopia since 1997, investing €400m.

“The result achieved in the road sector is remarkable,” said Antonio Capone, second secretary of and head of infrastructure section at the EU. “The country’s road network has increased from 26,000km in 1997 to almost 100,000km.” The condition of road network has also improved substantially, he said, with the proportion of road network in good condition increasing from 22% in 1997 to 70% in 2014.
