Factoring firm provides another growth indicator

20 Nov 13 A survey of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the construction industry has revealed that they are experiencing their highest levels of output for three years.

Factoring company Bibby Financial Services tracks the volume of invoices issued across its client base of 4,000 SMEs. In the three months to September 2013 it found that its construction customers issued more invoices than in any quarter since Q3 2011.

Bibby’s latest Business Factors Index began in 2007 and Q3 2013 was construction’s second biggest quarter since the survey began.

According to the Index, which measures activity against a base point of 100, construction firms have returned the highest level of output for Q1 and Q2 since 2008, and these latest results follow the general upward trend which is expected to result in a strong year overall for firms tracked in  the Business Factors Index.

For Q3 the index places construction firms at 115.9, which is 5.7 points above its Q2 level and 15.4 points higher than at the same point last year.
