Palfinger is offering its solution as an alternative where there are no other structures or eyebolts available to hook onto.
Palfinger FPM (fall protection mode) is available for SH and TEC 7 cranes. A fall arrester is mounted on the crane and the worker wears a belt harness that attaches him or her to the fall arrester.
The Austrian manufacturer says that fall protection on a crane should still only be used in exceptional circumstances, and subject to special requirements and strict compliance with precisely defined safety measures. One of the requirements is that the crane operator must also be on hand at all times, as well as the person tied off.
