Fehmarnbelt tunnel project launches portal for suppliers

28 Mar 14 Companies wishing to be subcontractors for the €5.5bn (£4.6bn) tunnel linking Germany and Denmark under the Fehmarnbelt now have a new opportunity to showcase what they can offer.

The project’s promotor Femern has just opened a new website - www.markedsportal.femern.com - where companies can introduce themselves and what they can provide - free of charge.

The website is intended to function as a marketplace, enabling fast and effective contact to be made between the main contractors and subcontractors.

Nine international consortia are in the process of preparing their bids for the tunnel construction and they are on the lookout for subcontractors for a number of tasks.  The tunnel contracts alone are expected to have an overall value of around DKK30bn and of this, one third could be passed on to small and medium-sized companies in the form of subcontracts.

More than 625 companies have taken part in briefings to learn how they can take on the role of subcontractor to the major consortia.
