GB chosen for £27m Huddersfield faculty building

5 Feb 15 GB Building Solutions has been selected to construct a new a £27.5m building for the University of Huddersfield.

Plans have been submitted to Kirklees Council for the new teaching facility on the Shorehead roundabout corner of the university’s campus. It will be home for the University of Huddersfield’s School of Law and its School of Music, Humanities & Media.

The new building will provide 7,500m2 of space, including large tiered lecture theatres, and stand six stories high.  It will link into the Student Central Building, which was completed in January 2014, at a cost of £22.5m.

The building is designed by architect AHR, which has an office in Huddersfield. Subject to planning permission, main contractor GB Building Solutions is looking to complete the build by September 2016.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Bob Cryan said: “I am delighted that we are about to begin another phase of the development of our campus.  We are committed to ensuring that we provide the best possible environment for the growing number of students who choose to study here and contribute so positively to the local economy.  We are also committed to our town, and are very pleased to be able to work with local businesses on a building that will take such a prominent place in the Huddersfield landscape.”
