The deal is on the agenda for ratification at the council’s cabinet meeting on Wednesday 13th January.

The two sites are on Freston Road and Queen Mary Road in Manor, in the east of Sheffield.

Construction is expected to take three to four years, creating 156 full time jobs over the period.

Councillor Jayne Dunn, cabinet member for housing at Sheffield City Council, said: “This is fantastic news for the city – attracting local firms like Gleeson to start building on the Manor estate to help us bring about the wider regeneration of the area, and providing much needed homes for sale and local apprenticeships and jobs. We are really pleased to be working with partners to develop solutions to deliver the new homes Sheffield needs. This new scheme will boost local employment as well as providing more housing, so is a great thing for the city.”

Gleeson Homes said that it would be investing £9m through the course of the project in employment, materials and subcontractor expenditure. It added: “We would like to hear from any young people from Sheffield who are looking for a career in housebuilding.”
