Government's centralised facilities management framework goes live

30 Jul 15 The government expects to save more than £200m by using a new centralised facilities management services framework contract that has gone live this week.

Previously, each government department procured its own facilities management (FM) services. Now it is all being done through a single framework, which has 19 contractors on board.

The FM strategy has been developed by the Government Property Unit and Crown Commercial Service, in collaboration with central government departments and their arm’s length bodies.

The new agreement offers department the option of procuring hard or soft FM services or a total FM solution.

Anticipated benefits include up to 15% savings through better buying, a common set of service level requirements, terms and conditions and pricing and improved management information enabling better cost benchmarking and performance management across the whole of the public sector.

Form of contract is the NEC3 Term Services Contract, which includes key performance indicators such as innovation/gain share.
