Greek-led JV wins €3.2bn Qatar Gold Line

25 Apr 14 The ALYSJ JV has signed a €3.2bn (£2.6bn) contract for the design and construction of the Gold Line underground railway in Doha, Qatar.

Ellaktor’s subsidiary Aktor is the leader of the JV, with a percentage of 32%. Also in the team are India’s Larsen & Toubro Construction, Yapi Merkezi Insaat and STFA Group of Turkey and Al Jaber Engineering of Qatar.

The project forms part of Qatar Integrated Rail project and the Gold Line is by far the largest single construction package of the Doha Metro.

The route of the Gold Line traverses Doha from East to West. It will involve a total of 32km of bored tunnelling with a diameter of 6m. Six tunnel boring machines will be in use simultaneously. The tunnel will be lined with approximately 128,000 segments. The line will have 13 underground stations, requiring 2.5 million cubic metres of excavation.

The project duration is 54 months and is due to be completed in August of 2018.
