Despite Manitowoc having unrivalled experience making both lattice boom crawler cranes and wheeled telescopic boom cranes (through the Grove business it acquired in 2002), it has chosen to source the hybrid type from a competitor rather than through its own product development.
Three German-made Sennebogen telescopic crawlers will join the Grove product line badged as GHC55, GHC75, and GHC130, where GHC stands for Grove Hydraulic Crawler. Maximum lifting capacities are 50, 70 and 120 tonnes respectively (or 55, 75 and 130 US tons).
However, they will only be available only in North America and Latin America, where Manitowoc has a stronger sales and product support network than Sennebogen.
Mike Herbert, global product director for rough-terrain cranes at Manitowoc, said: “The GHC series is for customers that need a compact, manoeuvrable crane that can face the rigors of merciless terrain,” he said. “With minimal transport requirements, 100 percent pick-and-carry ability and a telescoping boom, these cranes will prove very nimble in both getting to and navigating job sites.”
