Hawk drive to get women operators

6 Feb 15 Shropshire based plant hire company Hawk Group is launching a campaign to encourage women to pursue a career as a machinery operator.

The Women’s Work campaign begins on Saturday 14th March when Hawk holds a ‘taster day’ to give women an opportunity to come and have a go at driving a digger or loader at Hawk’s training and demonstration centre in Sandford, near Witchurch.

The taster day is open to all women interested in a career in construction and machinery operation, regardless of previous experience and background, or simply just curious. Those who attend the day will have the opportunity to drive machinery, talk to Hawk’s trainers, careers department and, if they wish, sign up to a training course as the first step of a new career.

Hawk director Paul Allman said: “Women represent only around 10% of the workforce in the construction industry and we want to address this. The shortage of skilled operators in our sector is also no secret, so if we are able to encourage more women to consider machinery operation as a career then that is a big plus for us and our customers too.”
