HR Wallingford tackles flooding in SE Asia

3 Mar 15 HR Wallingford has signed an agreement to work with a Malaysian university to develop improved water management strategies in South East Asia.

The memorandum of understanding signed with Universiti Sains Malaysia’s River Engineering & Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC) will see them sharing expertise and technology in the areas of river engineering and sustainable drainage management.

As part of this collaboration, they plan to develop solutions for challenging river, drainage and flood problems in the region, including the development of software and real-time flood forecasting and warning systems.

HR Wallingford business manager Geoff Wilson, said: “We share many areas of mutual interest with REDAC, and this collaboration will enable us to explore opportunities for technology transfer and strengthen the capabilities of our two institutes in South East Asia.”

USM vice-chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman said: “As a newly recognised higher institution centre of excellence, REDAC needs to strengthen its role and expand its scope of expertise for the benefit of the local community more holistically.”

REDAC staff will be visiting HR Wallingford facilities in Oxfordshire in April.
