ISG lands Watford High Street scheme

12 Nov 14 Affordable housing provider Home Group has appointed ISG to build a £7.2m development of new homes and retail units in Watford town centre.

The scheme is designed to regenerate part of the High Street by creating 56 new homes and 3,800 sq ft of new shop space. ISG will demolish the existing buildings on the plot and construct a part six-storey timber frame structure at the rear of the site, with a three-storey elevation at the front.

The developed is designed to blend with the surrounding architecture, ISG said. The High Street façade will imitate the art deco style of the former building on site, with matching bricks, pitched slate roof and new steel windows.

The one and two bed flats will include homes for outright sale, shared ownership properties and affordable rental units. The residential development is scheduled for completion early 2016.

ISG regional director Liam Duffy said: “Building on our existing relationship with Home Group in Scotland, we are delighted to have secured this keynote regeneration project in Watford. This development sensitively retains the character of High Street, providing much needed affordable accommodation within a central location and in a building that boasts strong environmental credentials.”
