The 250,000-square-foot store, one of the largest John Lewis shops outside London, is part of the new Grand Central development above Birmingham New Street Station.

ISG will fit out four floors of retail space. It will install raised access floors at first floor level, with majority ceramic tiles across the remaining three floors. The contractor will modify the atrium to form an enclosure around the existing staircase and escalators and install new lifts within the building. A major mechanical and electrical installation forms a key element of the programme – including advanced LED lighting and sprinkler systems throughout the store.

Kevin Dengate, divisional managing director of ISG’s retail and hospitality business, said: “To secure this iconic project against exceptional levels of market competition is testament to the quality, consistency and strong delivery credentials of our offer and we look forward to playing a key role in bringing John Lewis to the heart of Birmingham.”

This latest win for ISG comes on the back of a further £20m of projects for John Lewis, including a reconfiguration and refurbishment of the Kingston department store, upgrade schemes at Bristol, Sheffield, Southampton and Reading and a commercial office fit-out project close to John Lewis Partnership’s Victoria Street headquarters in London.
