Jacobs and Aurecon picked for $5bn Sydney M5 project

18 May 16 A joint venture of Jacobs and Aurecon has won a contract for engineering design services on the AU$5bn (£2.3bn) WestConnex New M5 project in Sydney, Australia.

The WestConnex project aims to reduce congestion affecting  of New South Wales road users every day. The New M5 motorway is the largest section of the WestConnex project to date and is being delivered by the CPB Contractors Dragados Samsung joint venture (link opens in new tab).

The Jacobs/Aurecon joint venture will provide multi-disciplinary engineering design services.

The New M5 is designed to double the capacity of the heavily congested M5 East motorway corridor, providing new twin tunnels 9km long between Kingsgrove and St Peters.

Jacobs senior vice president buildings and infrastructure Patrick Hill said a core team of 75 staff from Jacobs had already been mobilised for the project. “We are very proud to be contributing to such a globally significant project, one that is set to have a positive impact on Sydney’s road network for many years to come.”

To assist with the coordination and integration of design with other parties, three dimensional design and building information management (BIM) systems are being used to design and document elements of the project.
