Jacobs renews rail structures role

16 Dec 15 Jacobs Engineering Group has been reappointed as the sole supplier of professional services to Highways England Historical Railways Estate (HRE) for the next five years.

Highways England is responsible for managing a portfolio of 3,400 structures including legacy bridges, viaducts, tunnels and similar listed properties associated with closed railway lines throughout the UK.

Jacobs is providing technical professional services from feasibility studies through to detail design, with contract and site management services including structural assessment, environmental and estates management.

Over the past 10 years Jacobs has assessed, designed and managed the delivery of more than 1,000 structures, and worked more than 240,000 hours across the HRE portfolio. It claims to have generated more than £5m in efficiency savings through 54 ideas during this period.
