"We considered several factors in our purchasing decision,” said director Martin Lavery. “The main reason was in response to a demand for double drum rollers from our customers followed closely by a very competitive package on offer from Volvo and Capital Plant Solutions.” All six rollers are incremental to John F Hunt Hire Centres’ self-drive hire fleet and will be based at any one of the company’s three hire centre outlets around Greater London and Essex. “The specification of the machines coupled to our previous experience dealing with the team at Volvo were an added endorsement for us,” he said.
The Volvo DD25w double drum compactor weighs in at 2.6t and features a drum width of 1.2m whilst the smaller DD14 sports a drum width of 900mm with an operating weight of 1.5t. The drums feature dual frequencies operating at either 55Hz or 67 Hz for optimal impact and delivering nominal amplitude of 53mm on the DD25w and 37mm on the DD14. A pressurized water feed system is directed via four nozzles per drum working in conjunction with spring-loaded, self-adjusting urethane wipers.
John F Hunt Hire Centres is based in Grays, Essex, and operates from hire centres in Essex and throughout the London area. Capital Plant Solutions is Volvo’s independent utility equipment dealer covering Essex, North London, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
