Keepmoat has exchanged contracts with brownfield regeneration specialist Harworth to purchase 10 acres of land at Harworth's Flass Lane development in Castleford for £3.65m.

Keepmoat’s will build 157 two-and three-bedroom homes aimed specifically at first-time buyers. Work on the houses is expected to start on site in May once Harworth’s primary infrastructure works are finished.

These will be the first houses on the Flass Lane development, which was granted outline planning permission from Wakefield Council in September 2015 for 560 homes, along with a pub and up to 50,000 square feet of commercial unit space.

Chris Davidson, associate director of major projects at Harworth Group, said: “This is the first of hopefully many partnerships with Keepmoat on our developments and we have been impressed by what they have planned for the first phase.  We look forward to the first of their homes being ready for sale later this year.”

Keepmoat regional director Ian Hoad said: “Our roots are very much in Yorkshire and this led to us expanding our presence with the launch of a West Yorkshire division last year.  This is thanks in part to the strong appetite and demand for new homes, coupled with our progressive partnerships with both the private and public sector.

Harworth is continuing to prepare land ready for the similar-sized phase two of the 67-acre scheme, which it expects to come forward in late 2017.
