Kier chosen for £23m Sheffield school

23 Feb 17 Kier has been named preferred bidder to build the new Woodside School for Sheffield City Council.

The £23m project is Kier’s first contract awarded through the new YORbuild2 framework.

The scheme will see almost 9,000 m2 of new school space built while the existing Grade II listed Pye Bank School building will be refurbished, providing a further 1,800 m2 of space. When complete, the school will be designed to accommodate 1,200 pupils, from nursery to 6th form.

Enabling works start in March 2017 with the main construction phase beginning in the summer. Completion is expected in August 2018.

Kier recently built the £8.5m North Active Leisure Centre in Sheffield and has worked with the council for the past 12 years providing repairs and maintenance services to council housing.

Kier Construction Northern managing director John O’Callaghan said: “We deliver on average 25,000 school places every year across the north and are confident that, by working closely with the council to understand their requirements, we can build a facility the city will be proud of.”
