Knauf compiles BIM object library

3 Sep 13 Insulation products supplier Knauf has produced what it describes as a comprehensive library of BIM objects.

The move is in preparation for the introduction of mandatory business information modelling (BIM) on all government-funded projects from 2016.

The objects are free to download from the Knauf Insulation website, offering specifiers access to insulation components that can be incorporated into their BIM designs.

Knauf says that the objects have been designed to meet current requirements, as well as looking towards the future needs of Level 3 BIM projects.

The library contains more than 200 objects, each containing information about thermal conductivity and resistance, product size and form, third party data and BBA certifications, sustainability information and any other certifications.

Technical marketing manager Dave Khan said: “Manufacturer’s data will play a vital role in developing information-rich designs and so it’s absolutely essential that we provide readily available objects that are compliant with all the major formats.

“We’ve taken great care to incorporate extremely high levels of detail within our BIM objects and have developed them in close consultation with several of our architect customers.  This was a key aspect of the development process as it’s allowed us to create really practical BIM objects that meet our customers’ needs.”
