Knauf Insulation produces new Polyfoam thicknesses

14 Dec 12 In response to the demand for increased levels of thermal performance, Knauf Insulation has enhanced its extruded polystyrene insulation; Polyfoam ECO range, to provide thicknesses of up to 240mm from just one layer " providing significant labour and cost savings for contractors.

The new range allows much lower U-values to be achieved and a considerable reduction in the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of each product, making it the ideal solution for many applications, in particular inverted roofs.

James Hulbert, Business Development Manager for foam products at Knauf Insulation explains: “With sustainability a key market driver for construction projects, we are constantly looking to enhance the environmental performance of our products.  Coupled with this are the efforts we take to ensure we offer cost effective, yet reliable insulation solutions for our customers. This has led to a significant investment in the development of the Polyfoam ECO range and we can now provide thermal conductivities as low as 0.033 W/mK across the whole range, meaning U-values as low as 0.13 W/m2K can easily be achieved with a single layer at 240mm.

“The Polyfoam ECO range with its high compressive strength, resistance to water absorption and proven long term durability, is the perfect insulation solution for inverted roof applications - giving confidence and peace of mind to the contractor, designer and client alike.”

Polyfoam ECO, which encompasses Knauf Insulation’s Roofboard and Floorboard range, has excellent thermal performance, as well as being lightweight and easy to handle and install.  Manufactured in the UK, it achieves a GWP of less than five and an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero.  Free from CFCs, HCFCs and any other material with ODP in its manufacture and content, the Polyfoam ECO range is also 100 per cent recyclable

The rigid board insulation has excellent structural strength, up to 500kPa, and long-term effectiveness, whilst being less prone to site damage than other rigid foam insulation boards. The new product is strong, highly moisture resistant and easy to cut and shape. In addition, the thermal performance is unaffected by site conditions such as wide fluctuations in outside temperatures and repeated freeze thaw cycles.

Furthermore, Knauf Insulation has a dedicated technical support department; TASC (Technical Advice and Support Centre) is on hand to offer advice for every aspect of the design, specification and installation process.
